Florida Vacation

Postby Wayne » Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:05 pm

Florida Vacation is still on for this year the weekend of June 12,13, 14. It has been scaled back significantly but not to the point that any wheeling opportunities will be missed. We plan on organizing a Saturday/Sunday weekend of wheeling running the usual trails.

Mohawk Pub and Family Campground 413-339-4470 at this time has plenty of camp sites to accommodate us if we sign up soon, it’s early enough in the season that there should be plenty of room if you don’t mind camping. Since it’s make you own accommodations you may make other arrangements if you prefer.
Food is also bring your own fair.

So, in summary. Florida vacation is a go. We will organize the wheeling, you will make your own arrangements for camping/lodging, food etc..

With time this event may grow again in the future to include the other festivities you have grown accustomed to in the past.

Sign up ahead of time is essential so that will have enough trails and trail leaders for everyone. Please e-mail Dave Spence with sign ups.

T-Shirts and Hats are avail for a small fee at the time of registration or contact Dave Spence

1. make your own arrangements for lodging. Call the above number if you wish to camp in the area most are camping.

2. e-mail Dave Spence and let him know which days you will be attending.

3. Additional information as it becomes available will be sent out via e-mail.

4. Please e-mail me if you want to help out and I will let you know what we have that can be done. trail leaders are needed for both days.

That's it for now.

HV4W has 5 signed up on our club on-line members area. It looks like all will be wheeling Sat only. Our club is doing FL Rd a couple weeks after your event (was to be 'The Hill', had to fill the sched hole), so our 5 will likely be preferring another trail at your event.

At this time, May 28, HV4W has 6 saying they plan to go for off-roading on Sat only. The 6 know they should contact Dave individually (I provided the e-mail address). If they do not, you should assume they are going, but just do not want a t-shirt. I will continue to provide truck count updates here if they change again before the event.

For our day trip people, what time of the morning should they arrive?

The 7 from HV4W are asking about trailer parking, since most are not camping, just a day trip. At the campground? At the trail heads? What can I tell my crew?

Trail head I suppose, then you can go straight home instead of back to the campground. :?:

I *think* we were planning both Crazy 8's and Deadfall for both days. But don't hold me to it.
It'll be good to see ya Sunday Keith, I'm packing now to head out the door.

OK. We are likely to come. If that falls apart on me, I will call your cell, Paul. Still the 2652 number? If I dont call, I will be at the campground by 0830 Sunday.

Hey all,
Had a good day at Crazy8's...met some nice new people. I hope Wayne and Eric and TIff made it home OK.
I luckily didnt get yelled at but got instructions to get Devon some Dinner so all is well. We need a cell tower somewhere near Crazy 8's.

I do think I may have given Josh his greatest adrenalin rush of the day when I glanced at teh window switch while backing my trailer and almost ran him over...but then he needed some more adrenalin anyway. :-)

See you all soon.

Hey Keith,
We had a great time, Tiff & Eric's jeep kept droppin the rear driveshaft, We drove it home in 4 high, got home around midnight, I must have washed 10 pounds of mud off the truck.

Thanks for putting up with us, see ya at the next run,

Tom

Midnight, Wow; that's harsh. Glad you all made it home though.

Tom, you have a PM .

What happened with Wayne? Did you get home OK? how long did it take. DId you figure out the problem? I was thinking that it might be mud on the ID of the wheel at the inside portion behind the WMS or the locker might have malfunctioned, periodically locking and unlocking, although one would think that you'd have heard that.

I actually continued north a ways for maybe 10 more minutes and a few more bouts with the death wobble before I talked myself into retreating south. I made the 80 mile trek home in 3 hr 15 min. I couldn’t get much above 25 mph or the wobble would return. I feel lucky compared to Erik though if they got home at midnight.
I have some thoughts on the cause and will test them out when I get a chance. Thanks for your help everyone.
